Experience
As an evening shift worker, I prided myself on ensuring both my daughters could read and write and do some basic numeracy work BEFORE they went to kindergarten. In my 28 years at Fairfax I was also in executive positions that required me to guide, mentor and develop young journalists. I am passionate about the need for children to use Literacy in all its forms to find, interpret, understand, use and be able to write about information in our fast-changing world. Early interest in and ability at Maths and Science at primary school is something I consider vital for the future.

Hobbies
With 28 years experience in journalism, reporting, sub-editing and design, plus having just completed a primary school Graduate Diploma of Teaching and Learning from Charles Darwin University, I am qualified to teach all KLAs across Stages 1, 2 and 3, and also teach casually in high school. As part of my course through CDU I did 90 days of practical experience. For the final 5 years of my career at the Newcastle Herald I ran its school newspaper competition. I am available for tutoring primary school aged children across all subjects, particularly Literacy including drama, fiction and non-fiction, and also high school and even university students with knowledge and understanding of Humanities subjects but also reviewing, editing and enhancing their written work. Words, history, the English language, current affairs and the ability to research and use information are among my passions. Of course after my training I am very aware of the teaching, learning and assessment continuums that are required under the new national curriculum.
