Kathy B.
Private tutor in Newcastle, Australia
Education
I earned a BSc in Geology in 1990, a Certificate of Supervisory Management in 1992, an MSc First-Class with Honours in Geology in 1996, a Ph.D. in Geology in 2001, and a Fundamental Teaching Skills for Sessional Academics Certificate in 2013. My master's thesis was about coal chemistry and analysis using thermogravimetry, and my doctoral thesis was on coal petrography and utilization in combustion and pyrolysis. I was also named ICCP Young Scientist of the Year in 2005.
Experience
I have done face-to-face tutoring since 2009 and have helped students pass courses that they felt they were going to fail. I have also served as the course coordinator for intensive Open Foundation Earth Science courses at the Callaghan Campus of the University of Newcastle and as a "Casual Academic" (lecturer and tutor) in Earth science at the same institution. It's great to help someone get a step closer to their dream!
