I am currently a private drafter using AutoCAD and Inventor for any 2D/3D drawings, so I can assist with the practical aspects of the field that purely academic programs may neglect. Additionally, I can demonstrate how to use the technology that goes into modern engineering if you aren't confident in your computer skills. I can also explain seemingly abstract concepts by relating them to how they are used in engineering, making them seem more practical and worthwhile.
